THE ROY F. AND JOANN COLE MITTE FOUNDATION ~ HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL BUILDS
In effort to meet our goals of helping students to become socially responsible citizens, leaders within their communities, and world ambassadors, the Mitte Foundation began working with Habitat for Humanity in 2002 to send teams of students and local community leaders to conduct seven to ten day builds in an international setting. It is our hope that these builds would not only offer unique and meaningful volunteer opportunities for both our scholarship recipients, scholarship alumni, and community leaders, but through brief tours of the areas would allow them an educational experience and a chance to interact and build relationships with people from other countries and communities.
Previous builds include participation in 2002 with the Jimmy Carter Work Project in Africa, 2004 in Veracruz, Mexico with the Jimmy Carter Work Project, 2006 with HFHI’s Global Village Program in Pitesti, Romania, and 2007 in Porirua, New Zealand with HFHI Global Village.
It is the hope of the Mitte Foundation that we can arrange a build opportunity every other year. The deadlines for applications will vary according to the country chosen, the timeframe determined, and the number of team members allowed by Habitat for Humanity for each build. So, please read the application information closely should you have a desire to participate in the next build. To read about eligibility, how to apply, and our next build click here.
