SCHOLARSHIPS
The Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship Program offers academic scholarships to high school graduates planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university in the state of Texas.
The application process for high school students graduating in the spring of 2024 is now open! The deadline to apply is March 18, 2024, at 3:00 pm CT.
For renewal applications of existing award winners: you will receive information via email from the administrator regarding deadlines and access to your account.

Guidelines for Initial Application
- Scholarship applicants must reside in one of the counties and school districts included in Region XIII by the Texas Education Agency.
- Scholarship applicants must be United States citizens and must be graduating from high school from a public, private, or home-schooled environment.
- Scholarship awards will be granted only to students registered for and ultimately attending any public or private accredited four-year or two-year college/university located in Texas.
Eligibility Criteria
- High school students entering college for the first time with minimum requirements to include the following factors:
- Academic Merit: Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale and, for a four-year program application, a composite college entrance exam score of ACT = 25 OR SAT = 1200, or, for a two-year program application, a composite college entrance exam score of ACT = 23 OR SAT = 1010.
- Community Service: Student must exhibit a high commitment level to community through service involvement throughout their high school experience with various community organizations.
- Leadership: Student must exhibit leadership experience at national, regional, or local level in school, work, church, community organizations, or other.
- Financial Need: Expected Family Contribution (EFC) not to exceed 10,000.
Essay Questions
- Responses are required regarding:
- Educational and career goal objectives.
- Involvement in community service organizations and/or activities.
- Experiences in leadership roles in school, volunteer organizations, and/or work during high school.
Scholarship Award Amount
- Annual scholarships of $10,000 to a four-year institution and $5,000 to a two-year institution.
Time Limits
- Scholars attending a four-year institution must graduate within five years of initial enrollment. Scholars attending a two-year institution must graduate within two years of initial enrollment. Renewal applications must be completed each year (See Guidelines for Renewal Application for additional information.)
Guidelines for Renewal Application
- Must be a current recipient of a Mitte Scholarship within the previous 12 months.
- Must achieve a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4-point scale by the end of the current scholarship academic year.
- As an undergraduate student, must maintain and pass at least 12 credit hours of undergraduate study per semester. For a four-year curriculum, up to a one year break from attendance is allowed, provided the student submits a detailed explanation of the interruption in his/her academic plan.
- Must volunteer a minimum of 100 hours annually towards meaningful community service to a qualified non-profit organization classified under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).
- Must participate in events that are scheduled specifically for recipients of Mitte scholarships. Events might include dinners, barbecues, presentations, seminars, or other similar type events.
- At the end of each award year, must submit the following materials:
- Resume listing number of hours worked at current job and any leadership positions held
- Copy of unofficial transcript
- Personal essay outlining what type of community involvement the student had during the prior 12 months
- Letter of recommendation attesting to the student’s volunteer activities and leadership abilities
